Making connections helps students learn with a deeper understanding. For that reason, 1st grade social studies and science standards are integrated throughout the curriculum, especially in language arts. During each unit, we'll immerse ourselves in rich literature, engaging informational text, and hands-on activities as we learn more about each topic that we study.
By sharing these topics with you, we hope that you can...
* engage your child in conversations about what he/she is learning in school
* extend your child's learning by reading more books on the current topics
* expand your child's knowledge by looking for hands-on or experiential opportunities in our community (walk in the woods, visit a museum, observe the moon...)
Click on the tab for each month to see the "BIG IDEAS" for that month.
*Teachers may choose to cover topics and units at times that are different than those listed for each month, however all units will be taught in each 1st grade classroom at some point in the year.
