Family Letter- Fact Triangles
Your child has brought home some homework pages with Fact Triangles. These triangles (and another others that come home at a later date) can be cut out and kept together at home.
They can be used like flash cards to help strengthen computation skills.
Each triangle has 3 numbers that make up a fact family. The number below the dot is the sum of the other two numbers. Children are very familiar with number bonds and should be able to make the connection between number bonds and fact triangles.
Fact triangles support fact power by reinforcing the link between addition and subtraction. They support fact memorization by linking the four facts together. The facts for the triangle above are...
8+4-=12 4+8=12 12-8=4 12-4=8
You can help you child practice by covering up the top number and having them find the sum. You can also cover one of the numbers in the bottom corner and have them find the missing addend.
