*The 2020-2021 school year will begin remotely. In October, some students will change to the hybrid model while others continue in the stand alone remote learning model Many routines and procedures will change this year as we strive to provide an optimal learning experience while being dilligent about safety. We will work hard to communicate routines and procedures with you as they develop.
There are many routines and procedures in 1st grade that will
help your child develop confidence and independence....
help your child develop confidence and independence....
Morning Routines- Morning is a very busy time in 1st grade! Arriving on time gives kids a chance to talk and play before the day begins. Buses unload at 8:25 and students enter the building at 8:40. Once we're inside we order lunch, say the pledge and listen to the announcements for information about the day. Please make sure your child has a note and knows about any different dismissal/bus plans ahead of time.
Snack- 1st graders eat snack each day from 10:15-10:25. Please send in only one or two HEALTHY snacks each day. Please include utensils for things like yogurt.
Lunch- Children sign up for lunch in their classrooms each morning. Please review the lunch menu at home and make sure that your child knows which choice they want to order before they come to school. 1st graders have another recess from 12:45-1:05, then eat lunch from 1:05-1:30 each day.
Dismissal- Please make sure to write a note and send it in each morning that your child has a different dismissal plan. This helps avoid disruptive phone calls from the office during the day, and helps your child to understand their after school plans.
Birthdays- 1st graders LOVE to celebrate their birthday. Half birthdays will be celebrated for children whose birthdays fall during the summer months when we're not in school. The birthday child will usually be the leader of the day, receive a birthday pencil from Ms. Stannard and hear his/her name read on the morning announcements. Classes have other birthday traditions such as songs, birthday books, paper crowns and/or stickers. You'll receive a letter about the library Birthday Book program shortly before your child's birthday. Parents are welcome to come in to read a book to the class in honor of your child's birthday. Please contact your child's teacher if you wish to do that.
The school rule is that birthday party invitations and thank you notes are NOT allowed to be passed out at school. Unless everyone in the class is invited, passing these out to some students causes other children to feel excluded. For privacy reasons, teachers cannot provide home addresses, especially for those who chose not to list theirs in the school directory.
