Like most literacy skills, you can support your child's opinion writing skills just by talking together! Pick a topic (seasons, colors, sports... anything!) Tell your child what you like best and give examples of why you think that way. Then, ask your child to talk about his/her opinion. The more you talk, the easier it will be when it comes time to write!

Responding to Reading
After reading the book Something Beautiful by Sharon Dennis Wyeth, students were asked to talk, and then write, about what was beautiful in their opinion.
"I think rainbows are beautiful. I like that they are made out of nature. It's made our of water and sun. Sometimes went (when) it rains and the suns shining and me and my grandma Nonni watch the beautiful rainbow. We saw all of the colors of the rainbow. That's my beautiful something."
