Ipad Basics
At the beginning of the year we learn rules for our school iPads. Students are increasingly familiar with iPads, but it's still a good time to review expectations for iPad use at school. We talk about iPad care, safety, different features and vocabulary that we'll be using throughout the year.
These include...
Home button, headphone port, landscape position, camera, camera roll..... just to name a few!

Splash Math is one of several ways that 1st graders practice math skills and concepts. Students are assigned different skills and complete tasks to practice. Splash Math provides teachers with data about the number of problems each student has attempted and his/her accuracy. This is a highly engaging and motivating way for 1st graders to practice math skills!
We are new to Seesaw. Although there are many things that can be done with this program, right now we are using it primarily as an online scrapbook where we can save "artifacts" of student learning. We have uploaded photos and videos of special days and events. We have recorded student reading so kids can self-assess accuracy and fluency and set goals for strengthening these important reading skills. It's beneficial...and fun...for kids to look back at great memories and see all the things they've done throughout the year.
This site provides practice with addition and subtraction facts. Kids work to increase their speed and accuracy as they work toward fact fluency.
This is an online database that provides age appropriate information on many topics that are of interest to our first graders. Pebble Go is an invaluable resource when children work on their shared research project about woodland animals.
Students can access 100s of books using Epic. Many books have the "read to me" option so students can listen to the story or non-fiction text as they follow along with the words.
The Chatterpix app lets us scan in a photo and bring it to life by making it "talk". Kids think in the first person of the object or character. They plan, write and practice their script before they record. This is a fun way to learn perspective and bring objects and characters to life!
