Winter Weather
Dress From Head to Toe...to Play in the Snow!
We greatly appreciate your help in sending full winter gear each day for your child so he or she is prepared to participate fully in outdoor learning and play. Our school guidelines are that children recess outside when the temperature is 20 degrees F. or above, and that students have snow boots, snow mittens/gloves, coat, snow pants, and a hat or hood in order to play in the snow. It is also helpful to keep an extra pair of socks in your child's backpack. With all that gear, it is a good idea to label everything with your last name!
Thank you for helping your "snow angels"!
Dear Families,
We've been collecting data all year long about the daily temperature. We graph and tally, take note of the changes and are beginning to see patterns emerge. We'll be using our data in more complex ways, as we also look for patterns in how the moon looks and how many of our 24 hour day cycle is light.

While we focus on weather, seasons, and the sky, we'll also learn about the animals who share our habitat and what they do when the weather changes. Our school yard provides us with an outdoor classroom and we take full advantage of it! As teachers of young children, we also know from research and personal experience how important it is for children (and adults) to spend time outdoors and we are committed to planning for outdoor play and learning during our day. Regular outdoor time boosts the immune system, builds muscles that are necessary for good vision, and provides physical activity that supports brain activity and learning.
