Getting to Know You- The beginning of the year is an important time when we get to know each other. We see old friends and meet new ones. Our Morning Meeting greetings give us daily practice in learning and using our classmates' names, as well as other important social skills such as including everyone, using a friendly voice and face and practicing eye contact when talking. Ask your child about their friends at school...Who did you sit with at lunch? Who did you play with at recess?
As part of our social studies lessons, we will also learn about the story behind our names and why our parents chose them. Children love sharing this special part of their identity.

Our family is also huge part of our identity. We will share about our families and learn about the families of our classmates, with the goal of understanding and respecting things we have in common and ways that families are special and unique.
We will learn about how our class is a kind of family, too. We have a leader and we have rules and expectations. We help each other, care about each other and take care of each other as work together toward individual and shared goals.
