The HWT Alphabet
First graders are instructed in handwriting skills using the strategies from Handwriting Without Tears. Letter formation is reviewed, modeled and practiced in isolation at the beginning of the year. Your child may bring home handwriting pages during the beginning of the year. After all letters have been taught and practiced, we continue to develop skills in student handwriting folders. This gives us an opportunity to focus on specific letters and letter groups, while integrating other important skills such as spacing, capitalization and punctuation by writing dictated sentences and doing guided drawings connected to current curriculum content.
